BRN takes on all time classic with ‘Freak Out’

It’s a brave producer who takes on such an almighty classic like Le Chic’s Le Freak. It’s a damn good producer who manages to make their own while still honouring the original. Step onto the dance floor Brazilian artist BRN with ‘Freak Out’, a stripped down but funky as take on Nile Rodger’s seminal disco track.

Laying bare the 1978 single’s chunky bassline, iconic guitar riff, and instantly recognisable vocal line, BRN doesn’t fall into the trap of trying to throw the kitchen sink at the production to put his stamp on it. In fact, it’s precisely because this edit is so far removed from artist ego, that it works so spectacularly. It’s an out and out dance floor tune, one that’s been made for a DJ to take inside the booth and take the mix to a whole new level. BRN doesn’t overcomplicate it, doesn’t add in current trends or sounds that might appeal to algorithms; instead he lets the music breathe, proving that sometimes, less really is more.

The Brazilian is coming off a fine run of success in 2024, with singles ‘Mommy’ and ‘Spicy’ building significant buzz underneath his profile. Blending Tech House, Bass House, House and Techno, his sound is effortlessly stylish and assured, showing a confidence usually seen in much more established artists.

Bruno, better known as B R N, is a Brazilian artist, and one of the most promising names in the current electronic scene. His unique sound features Tech House, with flavors of Bass House, House, and Techno, all of which characterize him as a versatile, original and authentic artist. Increasingly regarded as one of the most exciting new talents on the scene, his music has dropped on imprints like Catch & Release (Fisher), Terminal Underground (Matroda), No Bad Fridays (Joshwa), Box of Cats (Kyle Watson), Hub Records and Virgin Music, gaining support from a host of A-listers: Vintage Culture, Matroda, Fisher, Chris Lake, John Summit, Alok, Tiesto, Deeper Purpose, Lee Foss, MK, Pawsa, Joshwa, Martin Garrix and many others.

With over 13 million Spotify streams to date and a packed tour diary that’s growing in international waters, 2025 looks to be the year music fans get seriously stuck into BRN.
