SQL’s stunning debut album was one of the highlights of last year. 2018 will see the album followed up with a series of remixes starting off with house legend Frits Wenktink.
‘11th Hour’ transcends genres with its combination of soft chord pads, SQL’s signature funky percussion, hi-hats and that bouncy bassline. Frits Wentink takes SQL’s original cut and transforms it into a stripped back raw dubby house groove while creating his own take on that bassline.
Nine years after his first release, SQL has arrived at his most fully developed sound to date. “Sequel is about rebirth. It’s the culmination of everything I have loved, lost, learned and experienced in the last 10 years as a musician,” he says. “This cycle is the only constant factor in my music and my career, and by learning to accept it, I've come to terms with the music I make. This album reflects who I am right now at this moment. It’s me, no compromise.”
11th Hour follows up a string of strong releases on Gem Records from the likes of label boss Secret Cinema, Egbert, Heiko Laux, Eitan Reiter, SQL’s full album Sequel and of course SILVER: Secret Cinema’s 25 year Anniversary box.
