Yaya - 13k

Yaya is an Italian who has been really making waves of late. He has a fine grasp of drum lead grooves having grown up with a father in  the M’bamina Ensemble and has proved that with music on labels like Desolat., Now he branches out on his own with his new label Tamango Records. It launches with three infectious and subtle cuts from the man himself and really makes you want to hear more from the man behind them.

13K goes first and is a freaky, sine wave laced, tripped out late night affair that will take you deep down the rabbit hole. It is stylish and well designed and so is Delirio Habanero, which is another sweet after party tune with its undulate synths, colourful melodic rain up top and generally inviting if not aloof electronic grooves. The pick of the bunch for me is Gente De La Calle, a nice and fluid, loose yet catchy minimal track with airy drums, rooted kicks and scurrying sound designs all making for a nicely soul infused cut. It’s classy and sure to find its way into the sets and bags of some key DJs. This is a stellar way to kick off a new label and we look forward to hearing more.
