Aristophanes - 3001: A Space Disco
Tapei based artist Aristophanes (real name Pan Wei Ju) combines striking verbal wordplay, poetry and forward thinking delivery, which has seen her rise to be at the forefront of new sounds emerging from Taiwan. Discovered by Grimes, who subsequently invited her to collaborate on her single 'Scream', Aristophanes fuses elements of Hip Hop, Slam Poetry, Jazz, Soul and Electronica, to create a sound that is truly unique.
Her current single '3001 : A Space Disco' is taken from her forthcoming debut LP (out soon on Big Picnic Records), inspired by the timeless Stanley Kubrick directed Sci-fi, 2001 : A Space Odyssey, with production from Will Butler of Arcade Fire and Grammy award winning producer David Kahne. Aristophanes has performed at international music festivals including Coachella, becoming the first Taiwanese artist to do so, SXSW and Laneway. She has received radio support from Zane Lowe on Beats1, BBC Radio 1, KCRW and Triple J.
Next month, Aristophanes will be heading to the UK and Europe for a run of live dates, including a headline set at London's Birthdays on 17th November. Full date listings below. Stay tuned on more news to follow on the forthcoming album release.
