303 Easter Sunday with Dave Clarke, Speedy J, Luke Slater

Although it never really went away, techno has seen something of a resurgence in Liverpool these past few years, particularly in its most full on form. That sound has been spearheaded in particular by 303, who have welcomed Slam, Derrick May, Surgeon and Dave Clarke to their dancefloor in 2015. The latter returns to spearhead a simply magnificent offering which rumbles towards electronic excellence.

Returning for his third 303 date, Clarke is a special kind of techno doyen. Since his acclaimed ‘Red Trilogy’ in the early nineties, the ‘Baron’ has been a permanent fixture on the global circuit. An uncompromising presence on account of his forward thinking pursuance of both techno and a truer version of electro, he also remains an outspoken voice outside the dancefloor. Plus his Liverpool heritage runs deep, frequent appearances at legendary parties Bugged Out and Voodoo attesting to that.

The other two guests represent debuts for 303. Luke Slater is the first, another British techno legend with a strong association with both Voodoo and Bugged Out. He’s now much more closely attributed to the pummelling sonics of the Ostgut Ton imprint and their infamous nightclub home Berghain, adding to a rich heritage that includes work on labels like Novamute and Peacefrog, as well as pseudonym Planetary Assault Systems.

The final name is Dutch tyro Speedy J. Like Slater a former Novamute artist, he’s also released music on stellar imprints such as the legendary Warp Records and Richie Hawtin offering Plus 8. His own label Electric Deluxe has quickly become a byword for the very best in modern techno and his relentless and meticulously crafted sets see him appear at the likes of Awakenings and Bloc. The 303 residents will support.
