Australian producer 44 Ardent continues his steady stream of releases this year with another standout single titled Who Do You Think That You Are?, following on from recent gems Curtain Call, Wake Up, and Hold On (Forever), all leading up to his anticipated new ep that set for release in December.
With his signature blend of emotional depth and electronic finesse, “Who Do You Think That You Are?” delivers a lush, cinematic energy that bridges the worlds of dance, house, and ambient electronica. The track showcases 44 Ardent’s gift for textural detail and melodic restraint, layering hypnotic vocal chants, glimmering synths, and carefully tuned 808s into a deeply immersive soundscape.
44 Ardent explains; “This song samples a really cool cinematic track that I found when I was browsing the internet for interesting sounds. When I have a bit of a creative block I’ll go searching for the first sample that grabs my attention and then make a song from it with zero expectations. Almost always that song ends up in the recycling bin, but every now and then one will slip through the cracks. I really like how the chants from the sample blend in with the synth elements. I found it quite hard to get the 808s to sit nicely, since there’s quite a bit going on, but we got there in the end.
The song title is mostly unrelated to the song itself, but I was thinking a little bit about personal identity at the time, and how we perceive ourselves. So I guess that might be why this particular title popped into my head when I saved the song for the first time.”
Drawing inspiration from artists like Tourist, Caribou, and Jamie xx, 44 Ardent continues to carve out a distinct place within Australia’s electronic landscape, one that balances introspection with energy, and emotional nuance with dance-floor appeal.
