Honeyblood at Patterns, Brighton – Thursday 29th September

Honeyblood are a Scottish noise pop duo formed in Glasgow Scotland in 2012. The band is composed of Stina Marie Claire Tweeddale and Cat Myers.

Since they released their debut LP in 2014 to critical acclaim, the lo-fi duo has moved from strength to strength. Their seamless combination of vitriolic Scottish shoegaze and dreamy atmospherics is reminiscent of Californian counterparts such as Warpaint or Best Coast.

For fans of The Velvet Underground…

The Warlocks at Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen  – Saturday 1st October & Sunday 2nd October

After forming in America during 1999, the ever-changing personnel of The Warlocks meant that the band had already featured nineteen different members before it was slimmed to the seven-piece outfit that they are today. Consisting of Bobby Hecksher (Vocals/Guitar), JC Rees (Guitar), Corey Lee Granet (Guitar), Bobby Martinez (Bass), Laura Grigsby (Tambourine/Keys), Danny Hole (Drums) and Jason Anchondo (Drums) – their two drummers with four guitarists formation produces a relentless, hypnotic wall of sound that suggests a collision between classic psychedelia, Krautrock and The Velvet Underground style rock and roll. Do not miss this

For fans of awesome tapes from Africa and an incredible story..

Awesome Tapes from Africa with Ata Kak + DJ Katapilla at Patterns, Brighton – Wednesday 19th October

Brian Shimkovitz, the man behind the fantastic Awesome Tapes From Africa imprint comes to Patterns with two of his favourite African music specialists for this showcase, one with an incredible story behind it.

Ata Kak is the mysterious Ghanaian electronic/rap/highlife icon who kick-started the whole Awesome Tapes From Africa phenomenon, in a sort of brilliant Ghanaian version of the uplifting Searching for Sugarman documentary. Ata Kak’s album Obaa Sima had originally been self-released in Ghana in 1994. With the lo-fi recording charm of early Chicago house music, Obaa Sima’s joyous soul and casual brilliance made the enigmatic Ata Kak an underground internet sensation and a party-starter the world over. After more than a decade of searching ATFA boss Brian finally tracked down the singer and released the LP officially in March 2015. Don’t miss this.

Raye at Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen – Thursday 20th October

Following the release of her new EP & single, 18-year old South London newcomer and hotly tipped R&B singer Raye will be headlining Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen on 20th October. ‘Distraction’ and ‘Ambition’ featuring Stormzy have been whetting appetites over the past few months and her feisty new lead single ‘I.U.Us’ (co-written with Charli XCX) has definitely lived up to the hype. With plaudits from the likes of BBC Radio 1’s Clara Amfo, 1Xtra’s MistaJam, The FADER, Noisey, MTV, Sunday Times Culture, Wonderland and BEAT Magazine to name just a few, it won’t be long before RAYE explodes (in a good way 😉
