Acclaimed Dutch Producer Heijmat Returns With ‘Horizon’ From Upcoming EP
Dutch alternative-electronic solo artist Heijmat has announced his forthcoming EP, Echoes of Solace, and unveiled its immersive first single, “Horizon,” released on January 24, 2025. Known for his innovative fusion of ambient, techno, and downtempo, Heijmat takes his sound in a more cinematic and emotive direction with this release, marking a departure from the beat-driven style of his earlier work.
On “Horizon,” Heijmat collaborates with LudoWic, renowned for his mastery of the Trautonium—the first-ever synthesizer. Together, they craft a reflective, expansive soundscape that feels both intimate and cinematic, drawing comparisons to the likes of Jon Hopkins and Nils Frahm. The track opens with a haunting melody that gradually evolves into lush textures of warm analog synths, subtle piano, and elegant arpeggiators. A tense and gripping B-section builds towards a euphoric crescendo, evoking a sense of triumph and hope. The piece closes with a delicate interplay of Trautonium, piano, and a single synth, leaving a lasting emotional impression.
Speaking about the track, Heijmat says, “‘Horizon’ is about finding clarity amidst chaos. It’s a journey of rediscovery, where the build-up mirrors the highs and lows we all face. I wanted it to feel like the calm after a storm—cinematic, yet deeply personal.” This sentiment resonates strongly throughout the track, offering listeners a meditative yet powerful sonic experience.
The visual aspect of “Horizon” is equally meaningful. The single’s artwork—designed by Heijmat’s wife—features a polaroid taken by their eldest daughter, overlaid with a painting by Heijmat’s father-in-law. This layered, tactile aesthetic mirrors the organic yet intricate qualities of the music.
The release of “Horizon” sets a compelling tone for Echoes of Solace, showcasing Heijmat’s growth as an artist. The EP promises to push the boundaries of ambient and electronic music, reaffirming his reputation as a thoughtful and boundary-pushing creator.
Heijmat’s impressive musical vision is supported by a stellar production pedigree. The project is helmed by acclaimed, multi-platinum mixing engineer Huub Reijnders, whose portfolio includes work with Oscar and the Wolf, The Subs, and Kraak & Smaak. With such a strong foundation, Echoes of Solace is poised to be a standout release in 2025.
“Horizon” is not just a song—it’s a journey, a moment of introspection that reminds us of the beauty in rediscovery. It’s the perfect preview of what’s to come from Heijmat’s Echoes of Solace.
