Get to know QUBIKO, the Italian sensation working with FLAMENCA Records

Last week rising Italian star released his take on STBAN’s Flamenco House cut ‘Amor de Mis Amores‘. Beautifully inspired Flamenco-Latin House with a minimal touch, ‘Amor de mis Amores’ sees the FLAMENCA Records boss sample the 80’s hit of the same name by Paco, which is itself a remake of Edith Piaf’s 1957 classic ‘La Foule’.

With roots in the Argentine Tango and Peruvian Waltz the track’s DNA is soaked in dance; with his remix, QUBIKO brings it bang up to date for the 21st century dance floor. Matching the tango-inspired rhythms of the original with chugging bass and syncopating percussion, QUBIKO teases the production this way and that, one moment allowing the original elements to flex, the next pulling the listener into sublime electronica.

FLAMENCA Records is just the latest imprint to be graced by the man from southern Italy. In a relatively short space of time he’s seen his work released through some of house music’s finest, including FLAMENCA Records’ distributor Toolroom, Defected, Ultra, Suara, Glasgow Underground, 8bit Records and Stereo Production. With such a growing discography and a rapidly intensifying amount of attention, it was high time I House U caught up with Qubiko to find out exactly what makes him tick…

Hi Qubiko, welcome to I House U. Where in the world are you and what are you doing right now?

Yo guys, thanks for having me 🙏. Right now I’m in my studio in Italy, working on some fresh ideas. I’m finishing up a couple of collabs and preparing sets for the next gigs… so basically it’s all music and travel right now.

Congrats on the release with FLAMENCA and STBAN. Why did you want to work on a Flamenco House track and what did you do with the original to put the “Qubiko” stamp on it?

Thanks! 😎 I loved the idea straight away because mixing flamenco with house groove is a challenge full of energy. I brought my touch on the beat, a warm bassline, and that tension-and-release vibe that I always want in my tracks. I let the guitar breathe but pushed the club side, so it works both on the dancefloor and in the headphones.

FLAMENCA is just the latest label to work with you – Defected, Toolroom, Suara, Glasgow Underground, 8bit Records, King Street Sounds are just some of the imprints you’ve worked with. What do you look for in a label partner, and do you have any plans to set up your own label?

For me a label is like family: it has to believe in the music, support it, and give it the right push. Every imprint has its own story and audience, and I always choose the one that can highlight the project in the best way. About starting my own label… it’s already more than just an idea 😉.

For any of our readers who aren’t familiar with your sound, what would you say your signature production values are? Is there something that’s instantly recognisable as “Qubiko” or do you like to surprise people with your work?

I’d say groove and warm vibes, especially the bass – if you feel that low-end hitting your stomach, there’s a good chance it’s me. But I also love to surprise people: I don’t stick to one formula, I’m always evolving and trying to bring something new to the dancefloor.

Your father was a professional saxophonist – what was it like growing up around his style of music and do you feel that has had an influence on your own sound now as a producer?

Definitely. Growing up with a musician father gives you a different sensitivity. I absorbed the sense of melody, improvisation, and the drive to express emotions through sound. Even if I’m making electronic music, that influence is still alive in my tracks.

Which producers do you look up to and why?

One name above all: Gigi D’Agostino. He was a pioneer who brought Italian dance music to the world. His ability to create melodies that stay in your head forever is something that still inspires me today.

If you could work with any vocalist on the planet, who would you work with and why?

I’d love to work with Alicia Keys. Her voice goes straight to the soul, and I think on a powerful house track we could create something unique. That said, I’m already working on some projects with Italian singers… but right now it’s top secret 🤫.

If you could remix any track at all, which track would it be and what would you do to it to make it your own?

Great question! Maybe “Ain’t Nobody” by Chaka Khan. I’d give it a super deep bassline, a straight club-ready kick, but without losing the magic of the original vocals.

What club or festival is your favourite to play at, and why?

I’ve been lucky to play in so many incredible places: Cocoricò in Riccione, Chrome Club in Seoul, Untold Festival in Romania… each with its own special energy. But my favorite place to play will always be Puglia: it’s home, and the people dance with a different kind of heart there.

Finally, what has the rest of 2025 got in store for your fans, and where can we catch you playing live?

2025 is still full of surprises: new releases are coming and a couple of collabs that I can’t wait to announce. Live, you’ll find me here and there over Europe basically, but I really hope to return in Asia and I would love to make a tour in Brasil; everything was planned right before covid, then many things changed unfortunately… thanks again for having me and see you soon somewhere😎.
