Mark Rae Ft. Spikey Tee ‘Throne’ (Yves Schopin Remix)

Fresh from delivering a superb remix of Rae & Christian’s soul anthem ‘Spellbound’, rising French producer and remixer Yves Schopin now turns his attention to another Mark Rae classic, ‘Throne’. Reimagining the original 65 BPM groove at a driving 130 BPM, Yves injects the track with vibrant steel pan melodies, adding fresh energy and warmth to Spikey Tee’s powerful reflections on the experiences of the Windrush generation. The remix also showcases saxophone work from jazz heavyweight Chip Wickham (Gondwana), who toured extensively with Rae & Christian over the years.

Originally closing Mark Rae’s debut solo album, ‘Rae Road’ (Grand Central Records, 2002), ‘Throne’ remains a beautifully crafted and lyrically incisive critique of Babylon, capitalism and the exclusion faced by those left outside the system. More than two decades on, its message feels as poignant and relevant as ever, making Yves Schopin’s vibrant reinterpretation both timely and deeply resonant.

‘Throne’ (Yves Schopin Remix) is out now on Mark’s Music.
