Nomumbah - Udu EP
Brazilian nightclub D-Edge has been at the forefront of Brazilian dance music culture for some years now, and since the launch of their highly respected record label in 2009, it shows no sign of slowing down any time soon. The next EP in line, titled UDU, comes from Sao Paulo three piece production collective Numumbah, who have been making a name for themselves over the past couple of years with original works and remixes for such labels as Defected, Yoruba and Sonar Kollektiv.
Numumbah’s title track ‘UDU’ is a wonderfully deep and smooth number. Its rolling bassline, layers of distant, atmospheric background glitches and jazzy piano riffs give the track an authentic jungle-like feel. For the second track, ‘Mutum’, we are greeted with a warm, distorted kick drum and soft shakers which are swiftly joined by a playful bassline and funky piano notes. With the addition of the chopped up vocal sample which joins the proceedings towards the latter end of the track, this one makes for an all round feel good hit. The final track on the release, ‘Bullets’, is built up beautifully from the very start – with deep, shimmering pads and a subtle but highly effective bassline. This one will be getting a good hammering across the terraces and beachside venues around the globe this summer.
