5 Reasons Hoxton Square’s The Place To Be This Spring // Summer…

Hoxton Square has a colourful history of music, food and culture, from the Blue Note club in the early 90’s and figureheads associated with it like James Lavelle, Goldie and Gilles Peterson, through to iconic live music venue Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen opening its doors in 2001. As well as a consistent destination for art galleries and exhibitions, Hoxton Square has remained a popular lunchtime refuge from the city and one of East London’s best-loved leafy squares.

Below are five more reasons why Hoxton Square should be on your agenda this summer.

1. Quality Live Programming
As vital to London’s live music scene as ever, Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen has paved the way for some seriously goose-bump inducing performances over the years in their 300 capacity live room with Florence & The Machine, Foals, Grimes, Mumford & Sons, Savages and Azealia Banks all having played here early in their careers. Forthcoming highlights include Ray Blk, Dan Owen and Kaki King.

2. The Launch Of Smokey Tails Restaurant (Friday April 22nd)
Seth Troxler’s Beats and Eats pop up will be a permanent fixture at Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen as from 22nd April with their ‘Midwest modern’ take on lazy lunches, weekend brunches and dinner. The 64 cover restaurant with sun decked terrace will see Smokey Tails expand on their previous menu, mixing the hearty family food they have become known for with sharing plates, exotic salad combos, insanely good sides, sumptuous deserts and carefully fashioned cocktails. Weather permitting, every Sunday will also play host to an outdoor BBQ brunch.

Monday – Friday: Lunch 12pm – 6pm // Dinner 6pm – 11pm
Saturday: Brunch 10am – 12pm // Lunch 12pm – 6pm // Dinner 6pm – 11pm
Sunday: Brunch 11am – 1pm // Lunch 1pm – 6pm // Dinner 6pm – 10pm

3. New Weekend Programming
After taking over Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen last year, Mothership (the team behind The Book Club, Queen of Hoxton, and Patterns in Brighton) while committing to safeguarding the existing live programming, have introduced an exciting new weekend programme, including:

‘Night Call’ – Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen’s new in house weekly alt pop night, taking you from after work pow wow to full on Friday night vibes with tracks spanning alternative pop, post punk, new wave, classic hip hop, electro, afro disco, funk and beyond.
FREE entry before 9pm.

Love Space Time – A fantasy wedding party experience with each one taking place in a different space and time. The next union celebrates the wedding of Chaka Khan & John Travolta this  Saturday 16th April.  Watch out for forthcoming weddings themes including Clueless, Jay Z and Beyonce and President Obama's Homecoming Hawaiian Wedding…

Kate Boss –  This new residency launched with Tiger & Woods and will see The Revenge hosting on Saturday 14th May.  Kate Boss brings together London’s finest DJs alongside touring guests to play very special Disco, Funk and soul sets all night long creating a hypnotising authentic 1970s New York feel.

4. Monthly Music Film Night (Launching Monday 9th May)
Hate Mondays? Well not any more because Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen are partnering with Dogwoof, to bring you a monthly dose of music themed documentaries to feed your eyes and your ears on every second Monday of the month. Kicking off with Janis: Little Girl Blue a stunning, insightful portrait of the original “Rock Chick” Janis Joplin, a white girl with a ferocious, soulful voice who broke into the male dominated music scene but grappled with her inner demons and addictions. Produced by Oscar® winner Alex Gibney and narrated by Chan Marshall (of Cat Power).  Tickets are £5, including free Popcorn.

5. The Great Escape X Aussie BBQ (Sunday 22nd May)
If you’re not lucky enough to be able to get to The Great Escape in Brighton this year then this is your chance to see some of your favourite Australian bands in London and soak up even more BBQ vibes in the square. THE AUSSIE BBQ, the biggest showcase of Australian music in the UK, returns to Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen with acts including: Banff, Methyl Ethel, Oh Pep!, Owen Rabbit, Slum and Sociable (+ more still TBA).
