Royal Albert Hall Presents…Kate Simko & London Electronic Orchestra
Chicago producer/composer Kate Simko and her seven-piece ensemble London Electronic Orchestra bring an innovative genre-bending performance to the Royal Albert Hall this autumn. Orchestrating instruments into her distinctive electronic soundscapes, Simko draws from a unique and diverse background as a pianist, composer, and revered producer and DJ from Chicago. The performance will feature Brighton-based guest vocalist Abi Flynn of the Tru Thoughts label and bespoke styling by Chinese fashion designer Rui Xu, a favourite of Zaha Hadid.
Kate Simko & LEO’s distinctive sound melds the beauty and textures of classical music’s most ornate instruments inside the backdrop of organic, classic electronic productions, bringing a new perspective and fresh sounds to both genres.
Simko debuted LEO at the Britten Theatre of the Royal College of Music in March 2014. Since then her ensemble has performed at an eclectic selection of venues including the National Gallery, iTunes Festival at the Roundhouse, Boiler Room in Ibiza, Latitude Festival, Bestival, MIDEM, and Le Poisson Rouge in New York. The current core group is an all-female ensemble of Kate on keys and electronics alongside harp, two violins, two cellos, and upright bass. The set will feature songs off their acclaimed self-titled album ‘Kate Simko & London Electronic Orchestra’ on The Vinyl Factory, which includes collaborations with Jamie Jones and Katy B, a classical rework of The xx, and Kate’s remix of Franz Schubert ‘Ständchen D957’ which was recently co-released on Decca Classics.
The Royal Albert Hall has hosted the world's leading artists from a myriad of performance genres since the late 19th century. One of the UK's most treasured and distinctive buildings, it is a venue that every artist aspires to play and a monumental moment for Kate Simko & London Electronic Orchestra.
