Oxjam Presents 24-Hour DJ Marathon with Basement Jaxx, Simian Mobile Disco..
A 24-hour DJ marathon featuring some of the biggest names in music will be taking place as part of Oxfam’s Oxjam Music Festival.
The event will see 24 acts, including Basement Jaxx, Rob da Bank, Secretsundaze, Horse Meat Disco, Goldierocks and Bugged Out DJs take to the decks on 12 October for one-hour sets, helping to raise awareness of Oxjam and encourage fans to get involved to fight poverty around the world.
All 24 hours will be streamed live from Islington’s Work Bar via the Oxjam website and a limited number of tickets will be available for some of the event. It is hoped the event will encourage more people to take part the hundreds of volunteer-run music events held around the country throughout October to raise money for Oxfam’s work to end poverty.
The full line-up extends to include indie heroes Django Django and Friendly Fires, UK Garage stalwart Matt Jam Lamont, drum’n’bass dons Fabio and Grooverider, and disco-house mainstays Crazy P. Elsewhere, techno mavericks Simian Mobile Disco, Bristol house crew Eton Messy, party bro duo Krankbrother and post-disco upstarts Kiwi and Medlar ensure fans can expect to hear the full spectrum of club sounds.
Starting at 1pm, the marathon will be hosted by radio personality, globe-trotting DJ and party-starter Goldierocks aka Sam Hall, who conceived the event and curated it in conjunction with Oxfam.
Goldierocks said: “I’ve been a long-term supporter of Oxfam and have seen first-hand the work they do. Oxjam is a great platform for supporting local music at the same time as generating funds for the organisation’s essential work around the globe. It’s great to see so many DJs getting involved and raising awareness about the festival. Here’s hoping it will help make this the biggest Oxjam yet.”
Other acts joining include early-rising favourites Morning Gloryville, hosting a three-hour takeover on Thursday 13 October, alongside Loose Cannons and Krystal Roxx.
Sandy Trappitt, Oxjam Manager, said: “Sitting in the middle of the month-long festival, we hope the 24-Hour DJ Marathon will get Oxjam on every music fan’s agenda. We urge people to take part in next weekend’s multi-venue Takeover events happening in dozens of towns and cities around the UK. It’s a great way to support Oxfam’s work to fight global poverty.”
With the mantra Local Music: Global Impact, the 10th Annual Oxjam kicked off on Monday 3 October with Fatboy Slim, Stealing Sheep and Boxed In all playing live in East London’s Dalston Oxfam shop.
Since it launched 10 years ago, Oxjam has seen more than one million people attending a gig, helping to raise enough money to supply fresh water to 2.8 million people, or the population of Greater Manchester.
