London label Inermu readies its third release of 2019 as label founder James Dexter returns with ‘Back Then’.
Since its inception in 2015, London-based label Inermu has been churning out a wealth of slick house focused productions, chartering releases from the likes of Mihai Popoviciu, ANOTR, Chris Stussy and Tuccillo. Following on from his recent release on Cyclic Records with Frink, James Dexter adds to his impressive catalogue, which boasts releases on labels such as Poker Flat Recordings, Bondage Music and Gruuv, as ‘Back Then’ sees him return home with a four track EP comprised of hypnotic grooves and infectious hooks.
The EP opens with ‘Back Then’, a bass driven track that eases you in with a heavy percussion whilst a glitchy vocal hook flows throughout, before second track ‘Dubbing Again’ takes cues from its title with dubby chords and rolling drum arrangements, balanced by airy keys and scattered hihats, a perfect contrast between light and dark. Next up is ‘Anyone’, which introduces a balearic feel with swirling vocals, soft percussions and gentle pads, whilst final instalment ‘Stay’ offers a dance-floor focused tune with glossy cut-up vocals and rippling sound to smoothly round out the EP.
