Adi Shabat & Eyal Cohen – Be the Same EP
After something of a quiet summer, Biologic records is back with a new recording duo in the form of Tel Aviv twosome Eyal Cohen & Adi Shabat. They are a fresh and creative pair with a solid club-vibe conjured up from influences as diverse as acid, new wave, indie, house and techno.
Both with swathes of experience, Shabat has previously been the editor of DJ Mag Israel, has released on BPitch Control and holds a monthly residency at world famous Block club and the intimate Deli in Tel Aviv, whilst in the past couple of years Eyal released with Dopamine Music, Italo Italians Records and others. This EP is the start of an exciting new musical journey for this talented pair.
Opener ‘Be The Same’ is an elastic bit of dark edged house music with skittish percussion gliding over a globular bassline and loose drums. It’s a real tension builder that gets shot through with searching synths and locks you in the groove from start to finish.
‘Fire on Fire’ is a slower, more purposeful track with breathy female vocals, more robotic sounding percussion and stiff synth patterns that speak to a future sound of tech house. It’s dystopian and darkly sensory and will mark a standout point of any set.
Finally, ‘Left to Hide’ completes this triptych of great tech tracks in fine style: the percussion is crisp and fresh and a bobbling, molten bassline gurgles deep down below it all. This one demands that you come to it and get lost in its careful groove as it unfolds like an industrial landscape late at night.
This great EP is the start of a new musical journey for this talented pair, as well as a timely reminder that Biologic Records is a label that needs your attention.
