Revered Swiss producer and DJ Andrea Oliva has announced he is to release his debut album, ‘4313’ on May 25th via Objektivity.
The 12-track LP illustrates both Andrea’s willingness and ability to explore conceptual themes within his own, carefully constructed house and techno framework. Centred around the promise of a ‘new age’ and produced with a mix of both live and software-based instrumentation, ‘4313’ firmly treads its own, unchartered path through the electronic wilderness – a testament to Oliva’s continued desire to explore and experiment.
Opening with ‘The Fifth River’ – the first of two collaborations with fellow Swiss Jimi Jules and inspired by Adam and Eve’s tale of the original sin – Andrea’s versatility as a producer is immediately apparent, with delicately-worked techno followed by elements of old school house for ‘Funk Obsession’, whilst the album’s lead track ‘Turn Off The Dawn’ sees Oliva deliver a more club orientated, vocal-heavy rhythm. As the album progresses, darker corners of Andrea’s studio persona are fully explored in ‘4313’ as well as ‘Sleepless Fog’ – a yearning tale of a lost love torn apart by insomnia – with the 360 degree journey also delving into Andrea’s tribal-inspired catalogue for ‘Red Sun / Black Love’.
With a further contribution from Franco-British producer and vocalist Moggli, ‘4313’ is a direct reflection of Oliva’s vast production experience, but also a continued willingness to explore new avenues for his music to grow, develop and evolve.
Andrea explains,
“Musically speaking this album is all about being spontaneous and having fun. I didn’t follow any particular waves or hype of music, I just wanted to sit in the studio and get inspired alongside the musicians I was working with. Everything happened very naturally and I was able to capture each mood in the right moment – you will understand when you hear the whole album – every track is different and has a different story. Every approach to each track was different. The whole production time was very intense but a great experience, and it has been a pleasure to work with such a variety of talented artists. Each of these collaborations alongside my ideas created a big universe of music covering pop, techno, house….there really is a little bit of everything.”
Having broken through the Beatport Top 10 in 2012 with notable releases ‘Click Off’ (Cadenza) and ‘Scene’ (Be As One) – with his discography also counting releases via Viva Music, Saved Records, Moon Harbour and Hideout – Andrea quickly became synonymous with Ibiza in 2013 after he was booked as resident for the island’s leading underground party, ANTS at Ushuaïa. Now three years on and with the residency and his profile as a DJ growing from strength to strength, 2014 also saw Andrea’s demanding tour schedule take in over 70 gigs in the space of three months – counting key slots at DC10 and Panorama Bar as career highlights as well as making his Coachella debut this spring.
Continuing to achieve widespread recognition amongst his contemporaries and showcasing his incredibly diverse skills as a producer, Andrea looks set to enjoy a defining year in 2015 with the glistening new LP ‘4313’ firmly at it’s core.
‘4313’ is scheduled for release on May 25th via Objektivity.
