Mid-April will see the release of the ‘Who Knew Her’ EP from UK artist Artifact, accompanied by a Dale Howard remix and set to drop via Kerri Chandler’s MadTech imprint.
Bristol based producer and DJ Artifact has carved out quite the career over the past four years with his material being championed by BBC Radio1’s B Traits, Rob Da Bank, Mista Jam and Mary Anne Hobbs. Material has been unleashed from the rising producer via reputable imprints such as Local Action, Deadplate and Rebirth, a telling sign of the contemporary appeal embodied in his erudite compositions.
Title cut ‘Who Knew Her’ kicks off the EP and sees Artifact deliver a chugging bass led groove laid out over five minutes with meandering synth stabs and choppy bass hits running alongside an amalgamation of looped and sequenced vocal cuts. ‘Letters’ follows and retains a similar vibe to create coherency in the package with intricately programmed voice snippets, rugged bass tones and a subtly unfolding tension to round off the original content.
OFF Recordings artist Dale Howard then completes the package with his take on ‘Who Knew Her’, tipping the focus over to swinging rhythms and rumbling sub bass, while sporadically easing in the original’s hypnotic synth tones and vocal murmurs.
Artifact’s ‘Who Knew Her’ is out on MadTech Records 13th (Beatport) 26th (General) April 2015.
