Abou Samra - Aspic
Go Deeva Records close out the year with an EP from Abou Samra. It features two originals and remixes from Vidaloca and Stas Drive and really offers some nice deep house across all four tracks.
Aspic is the opening tune and is a deep, atmospheric cut with nice trumpet lines drifting up top as steamy female coos warm the groove. The percussion is soft and airy and the whole thing really makes you wiggle. Connected is the other original and this one is a more dark and moody techno cut. It has taught synths bending and twisted over the huge, chilly hi hat ringlets. There is tension building throughout that really keeps you locked. The Vidaloca remix is a nimble house track with razor sharp hi hats cutting up the flabby, heavy bottom end. Vocals are cut into little stabs that bring real energy. Last of all, Stas Drive is a free flowing groover with loose drums and nice wooden hits and drifting trumpets adding scale. All in all a fine EP from top to bottom.
