Petra Digital serves up a bumper package of interesting new tunes for its next release. It features four originals by Bartaub and also four fresh remixes from esteemed artists. These include Swayzak, Roger Gerressen, Tolga Fidan & Cesar Merveille plus Havantepe, so are a crack selection that all turn in fine efforts.
First of the originals is Atrax, a seven minute plus spine tingler with rousing trumpets gently rising up from a bubbly, warm and rubbery hosuse groove. Its supple minimal music to get the crowd going. Find And Hide is more prickly and upbeat, with layers of synths and drums all warping round each other. Raw Land gets dark and dirty, with freaky vocals and paranoid synths sounding unhinged and beautiful at the same time. Bender is the last original and is a more breezy cut, with sashaying chords and wary drums all bring a nice laid back feel. Dutch drum master Roger Gerressen goes first with the remixes and keeps things deep and stripped back, with humid vibes and vinyl crackle making a perfect back room feeling. Cesar Merveille and Tolgan Fidan then tackle Find And Hide with their usual micro evolving style. It’s a track stuffed with detail that is restless and wriggling and really gets under your skin. Havantepe’s version of raw Land is more peak time tackle, with surging synths and meaty drums lifting you up and getting you on your toes and closing things down is veteran Swayzak, whose cavernous and sparse vibe-chambers are run through with real machine soul. They round out what is a fantastic EP.
