Today, Australian indie royalty San Cisco announce that their highly anticipated fifth studio album Under The Light will be released March 2023. To mark the announcement the Fremantle trio have also revealed a brand new single ‘High’, along with a cinematic official video clip. The band also return to UK shores with a headline show at Scala, London Tuesday 11th June 2024. Tickets will go onsale at 10AM GMT Friday 20th October 2023.

Striking the balance between euphoria and melancholy, San Cisco’s fifth studio album Under The Light sees the trio enter a new phase of maturity, vulnerability and experimentation both musically and lyrically – a record that “truly embodies the genuine essence of San Cisco.” Spending the first half of the year deep in studio sessions split between LA and Fremantle recording Under The Light, the forthcoming record is a collaborative work with producer James Ireland (Pond, Cuco) and mixed by Grammy award winning engineer Neal H. Pogue (Steve Lacy, Tyler The Creator, Outkast) and Anthony Dolhai (Mø, Carly Rae Jepsen, Kesha). “Collaborating with our close friend and producer, James Ireland, was an exciting and fresh journey that allowed us to fully actualise our musical aspirations. The album was predominantly written and recorded in our studio, kitchens, and living rooms at home in Fremantle” the band explain.“This unique experience was unlike anything we’ve undertaken before, and we couldn’t be prouder of this body of work.”

Featuring recent singles ‘Lost Without You’, ‘Horoscope’, ‘Honeycomb’ and album title track ‘Under The Light’, the forthcoming record delves into new sonic territories we’ve yet to hear from the band, introducing elements of electronic, garage and house music. It’s the sound of a beloved bastion of indie-pop emerging, growing, and contorting as they explore new collaborations, instrumentation, and songwriting techniques.

To mark the announcement, San Cisco have revealed their latest single ‘High’ that taps into the themes of tainted sweetness, and the push and pull of desire and fear that are explored throughout the coming record. San Cisco explain “the feeling of falling deeply in love is paradoxically euphoric and terrifying. It can become a breeding ground for your insecurities, what I think of as ‘lovers imposter syndrome’. When you find yourself besotted with such an inimitable person, we can often be left to face the fear of failure, of ‘not being good enough’ or impressive as them, leaving us entertaining the idea of falling from these newly found heights and losing it all.” ‘High’ only adds to the anticipation for what’s to come from the new Fremantle trio as they enter a new phase of maturity, vulnerability and experimentation.

Directed by Levi Cranston and shot on location in NSW’s chilly Blue Mountains, San Cisco have also revealed the official video clip for ‘High’ – setting the scene of a typical, innocent love story that unravels into something that seems much more sinister in flashes throughout the video clip with the storyline left to be continued in another installation. “There’s something insidious about this cheesy love story” director Levi Cranston explains, “perhaps all that warm, glowing, spinning, slow-motion stuff is true love; don’t they look happy? Don’t look too hard at the cold rain and the crows and the red tide. Forget about that. That will come later. . .”

“We embarked on a pilgrimage from Fremantle to the serene, yet chilly Blue Mountains to bear witness to the creation of this visual masterpiece. Levi, along with his meticulously assembled team, has a unique way of weaving magic and immortalizing it on 16mm film. The process exudes a raw, visceral energy reminiscent of recording on analog tape” the band explain. “While our presence in this video is minimal, it marks a refreshing departure from the conventional music video. If you find yourself thinking that the story remains unfinished, you’re absolutely correct.”

Hailing from Fremantle, Western Australia, throughout their illustrious ten-year career indie-pop three-piece San Cisco have become one of Australia’s most successful independent artists amassing multiple accolades. Garnering millions of streams and critical acclaim through the release of four studio albums, San Cisco have toured the world selling out headline shows and appearing at festivals such as Splendour In The Grass, Lollapalooza, Reading & Leeds and many more. San Cisco’s fourth studio album Between You and Me in late 2020 – an album two years and at least one sadly remembered love affair in the making – reached top three in the ARIA Album Charts and featured leading Hottest 100 charting singles ‘When I Dream’, ‘Skin’, festival anthem ‘Reasons’ and ‘On The Line’. Album five on its way in 2024.

Renowned for their high-energy live show, San Cisco have taken the stage in their native Australia at this year’s Bass In The Grass (NT), Dream Machine (Bali), Be Social Fest (QLD), Melbourne’s Formula 1 Grand Prix (VIC) and over the weekend headlined the FIFA Fan Festival in Adelaide (SA). With no signs of slowing down, San Cisco were also recently announced to be playing the Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix in September of this year.

Coming in at #35 with their cover of Daft Punk & Pharrell’s ‘Get Lucky’, and #52 with their cover of Clairo’s ‘4ever’ in triple j’s the recent Hottest 100 of Like A Versions, San Cisco were also recently nominated for the Reader’s Choice Awards at the 2023 Rolling Stone Awards alongside Lime Cordiale, CXLOE, Tones & I and more.
