AVA Festival announce AV show with Max Cooper

AVA has teamed up with long-standing partner Red Bull, and Arts Council NI to launch an unforgettable electronic audio visual stream with Max Cooper, against the beautiful background of Carlisle Memorial Church in their hometown, Belfast.

The homecoming performance for Max Cooper brings a new live A/V show to Belfast, combining the world class visuals with the distinctive high Victorian, neo gothic style of the building, creating a truly special audiovisual experience.

This live recording will also be the first electronic performance in the venue, and the last of 2020, marking a special occasion for the city. On the edge of inner-city Belfast, Carlisle Memorial Church was built in 1875, and recently restored in 2015, highlighting Belfast’s impressive architectural legacy.

Sarah McBriar, the Creative Director of AVA explains how this partnership has been three years in the making; ‘After stepping inside the building in 2015, we knew we wanted to bring a part of AVA to Carlisle Church. The venue is breathtaking and Max’s work is so original and visually impressive that the two coupled together has created something really special.’

Speaking about the performance Max Cooper said, ‘It’s a beautiful space inside the old restored Carlisle Church in Belfast. My main aim was to try and complement the structure with my music and visual projections, framing the imagery around the architecture, and trying to put together something musically and visually to match. I brought along a semi transparent gauze screen to sit in front of me, so I could alternate between a high-res uninterrupted image and the broken imagery across the church, as well as blend them together. We also added strobes to further highlight the built structure for some peaks. Then I just had some fun with it. Massive thanks to everyone at AVA festival for coming up with the idea to do this and to AVA the partners for making it happen.’

This stream will be available to AVA’s online community for free on November 18th 20.00 GMT, available across Youtube, Facebook and www.avafestival.com.

To get the most of the experience AVA encourages you to link up sound systems and big screens to create the best set up you can!
