Avant Garde bring a slew of electronica giants to London this Summer

‘Avant-garde’ is a term used to characterize music which is thought to be ahead of its time, and this summer the Avant Garde collective are remaining steadfastly true to their namesake. The crew have curated three very special parties and making appearances are such esteemed electronica heavyweights as Trentemøller, Apparat, Pional, Gardens of God and Lake People. The parties will be divided across blank canvas and arts centrifuge Oval Space and the much revered arches of Corsica Studios.

Oval Space, located in the heart of East London, adjacent to the iconic Gasholders in Bethnal Green, is the scene for the first of these parties. On June 27th, the 6000 square feet of space will host electronic maestro Sascha Ring aka Apparat (Bpitch Control/!K7/Shitkatapult), whose sound is renowned for being as eclectic as its musical horizon is broad. Also making an appearance is Hivern Discs affiliate and multi-instrumentalist talent Pional. With the venue having literally just revamped its sound system, the stage is set for a truly special experience.

On August 8th the party moves to Corsica Studios. The highly regarded arches have played host to a veritable who’s who of the electronic scene over the years, with the club’s Funktion One Stacks pummelling revellers week in, week out. Heading up the bill this time is Gardens of God. With releases on Ten Walls’ Boso Records and Maceo Plex’s Ellum Audio, his clever melodic patterns coupled with his tougher, hard-hitting style of techno are guaranteed to have the place in uproar. Joining him is Lake People (live), the solo project of Leipzig-based Martin Enke. With releases on Permanent Vacation, Connoisseur and Ghostly International to name a few, Martin will be sure to douse the audience with his deep and melancholy organic warmth. Linas Strockis aka Few Nolder (live) will also play, a Lithuanian who can also attest to such worthy affiliations as Boso, Connoisseur and Planet Mu.

And finally, the piece de resistance, on October 3rd Oval Space and Avant Garde welcome Trentemøller. Those with any inkling of electronica know that Danish Anders Trentemøller should need no introduction. A behemoth of the minimal scene in the 00’s and more recently making colossal waves with the intricate grooves and heart wrenching melodies of his live show, Anders’ exceptional productions have cemented him as one of the most respected and admired artists and remixers of this century. This is an extremely rare opportunity to catch him DJ in the capital and should under no account be slept on.

Support on all occasions will be provided by Avant Garde residents Rabota (live) and The Troubadour, and on August 8th the Warm Up crew will be keeping Corsica’s second room jumping.
