With one week to go until the inaugural Community Festival takes over the streets of Shoreditch and Hoxton, details of the ‘In The Community’ programme have been revealed, bringing a variety of free events, pop up shows and performances to reimagined spaces throughout London’s creative capital.
In The Community will take over stores and spaces as part of the three day festival. Locations include local barbers Tommy Guns, who will be hosting an intimate performance from indie acoustic artist Lisa Mitchell, whilst cycling mecca, Cycle Labs will be taken over by the folk sounds of Robbie Boyd.
Fuelling Shoreditch day after day, Fix Coffee will host three nights of acoustic charms with rising singer-songwriters Ellie Ford, Theo Bard and Chloe Foy. Red’s True Barbecue ‘The Woods Bar’ will be showcasing rising talent; alternative folk duo Ivy & Gold, indie trio Blaenavon and Afrikan Boy providing a tasty menu of emerging talent. The containers of Box Park Shoreditch will play host to a very special DJ performance with the infectious sounds of Draper. Retro clothing specialists Rokit will host soulful singer, Charlie Straw in their diverse and stylish surroundings, whilst Café 1001 will present the respectively hyped Cuckoolander, Daisy Victoria and The Prettiots for what promises to be a stunning show.
In The Community’s core ethos is about bringing fresh new music for free to the local area, in the spaces that stand as key elements of Shoreditch and Hoxton’s renowned global identity. This mind-set is undeniably shared with iconic grass-roots gig enthusiasts Sofar Sounds who’ll be bringing their own intimate nights to the fringe event, with details on acts and location to be announced on the day.
Showcasing a diverse range of acts spanning multiple genres, Community already promises some true stand-out evenings of new music, with headline performances from Lianne La Havas, Nothing But Thieves, Sunset Sons, Sundara Karma, The Japanese House and Young Guns. From the raucous ramshackle indie of Rat Boy, to the tough Californian rhymes of Vince Staples and the pulsating beats of Blonde, Community is showcasing the freshest names across the musical spectrum, providing the definitive new music festival of 2016 before it’s even begun.
