BBC Radio 1 to return to Ibiza this August
BBC Radio 1 will return to Ibiza this August for its annual weekend of live broadcasts and events on the island – packed full of the best new music and hottest DJ sets.
Firmly established as one of the most eagerly anticipated dates in Ibiza¹s summer season, the three day event will run from Friday 1st August to Sunday 3rd August with Radio 1 DJs Nick Grimshaw, Zane Lowe, Annie Mac, Pete Tong, Danny Howard, MistaJam, B. Traits and Toddla T all confirmed to jet off to the White Isle to take part.
The legendary weekend will kick off on Friday 1st August with a free party at the Ushuaia Beach Hotel in Playa d’en Bossa with around 7,000 music fans expected to attend. Nick Grimshaw will be providing the official warm up from 6pm on Radio 1, broadcasting live from a beach location to get listeners in the party spirit before the main event gets underway (7pm until 11pm UK time) with DJ sets from some of the leading names in dance music.
Information on ticketing for Radio 1¹s free party at Ushuaia will be announced in July when the star line-up will also be revealed, so please keep listening to Radio 1 for details.
On Saturday 2nd August, Radio 1 will return to Cream @ Privilege for an exclusive event. The special live extended five-hour Essential Mix will begin at midnight and will feature sets from Steve Angello and Above & Beyond, with Sasha and Pete Tong performing back to back. The bumper line-up also includes Radio 1¹s Annie Mac, Zane Lowe, MistaJam, Friction, Toddla T and B.Traits featuring MC Juma, as well as Oliver $, Huxley, Wilkinson, Second City, T.Williams, plus a special guest still to be announced.
Pete Tong said: ³Radio 1 in Ibiza is an annual tradition and the biggest event of the summer. The free party at Ushuaia will be a phenomenal start to the weekend, and going back to back with Sasha during the Essential Mix at Privilege will be a big moment.²
A whole host of Radio 1 shows will also be live from the shores of Ibiza across the dance-fuelled weekend – now in its 19th year. Nick Grimshaw will kick off proceedings, broadcasting The Radio 1 Breakfast Show from the White Isle on Friday 1st August.
Live from a secret island location, the special one-off show will bring the sounds of the Balearics back to listeners waking up in the UK and is the perfect warm-up to Radio 1¹s free party at Ushuaia taking place in Ibiza later that day.
Danny Howard will host a special Ibiza edition of Radio 1¹s Dance Anthems on Saturday 2nd August, showcasing the hottest new music from the clubs on the island and MistaJam will take over the airwaves from 7-9pm with a live Ibiza show, simulcast across both Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra. Annie Mac will round off Radio 1 in Ibiza on Sunday 3rd August, broadcasting a Sunday evening show from the island.
