Since his explosion into the world of Dance music, Italian DJ and producer Yuga’s rise to international stardom has been nothing short of mesmerizing, thanks to his perfectly crafted studio bombs and energetic and highly sought after DJ sets. Known in the scene as Tradelove before his change of alias, Yuga is the mastermind behind many Beatport chart-hitting records.
We had the pleasure of chatting to Yuga about his latest masterpiece ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’, a collaboration with Mr Saccardo.
Hi Yuga, thanks for taking time to answer these few questions. For those who aren’t familiar with you, can you describe a typical Yuga track using only five words?
VERY KICKASS HOUSE DROP SOUND. Hi guys thanks for having me here is a pleasure. I am quite sure I answered your question properly!
You have recently just released your newest single ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’, collaboration with Mr. Saccardo. How did the idea for the single come about?
Funny enough it was a surprise. I was working on the remake of Whitney Houston’s masterpiece and while I was doing so, I was also scouting for new talent. I came across Mr Saccardo and fell in love with his records. I asked him what projects he was and he said “a remake of ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ ”and voila!
‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ was released on your very own Kaisen Records imprint. Can you tell us a bit about why you decided to release the track on the label?
If you had listened to the track you wouldn’t need to ask… I’m joking of course. There was so much of the original in our version, mixed with the typical Kaisen sound, that it was only natural that we released the record with them.
The track has already gained a lot of widespread DJ support, including Jamie Jones, Ummet Ozcan, Gregor Salto, Benny Camaro, Andy Durrant. How does it make you feel when A-List DJs support your record?
It makes you feel really good when someone appreciates your work. Of course artists always do their ‘thing’ to personally please themselves and their hunger of personal appreciation, but sometimes it is good to see you are not the only one that appreciates what you have done.
Do you mix and master your own productions or do you get help from an engineer?
We have some different studios that we work in with Kaisen on mixing and mastering and most of the time I do the mixing and mastering myself. For ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’, Mr Saccardo and I did the mastering together.
How long did it take to produce the single?
Our own versions were nothing more than demos so it took around 5 weeks to complete the final track.
Will you be doing a video production walkthrough of the track?
We have got our Marketing team working on it as we speak and online you can find some little teaser and clips we made to support the launch.
Where did you get your inspiration from when producing the track?
I have remixed so many artists from the 70s and 80s but never thought about remixing/reworking Whitney Houston – maybe it’s because I have so much respect for her. It was only when I met Mr Saccardo that it felt right to work on the track.
Can we expect a follow up to ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’in a similar style?
Definitely! I am already working with Mr Saccardo on the next collaboration and at the moment we are on the so-called ‘ideas’ stage – listening and producing a lot of demos to make sure we identify the next sound for us. Stay tuned!
What can we expect in terms of future releases and plans from Yuga?
I have just released my new track ‘Tonight’, a remake of KC and Sunshine Band. It’s a Deep House, kickass drop tune that you will here soon on the radio. In the meantime I am working on the follow up collaboration with my friend RoyTson after our first collaboration ‘Unz’.
