Making his EPM debut is none other than Ben Long from UK techno mainstays, Space DJz, with a new solo EP entitled ‘Toltec’, released on 17th November (vinyl / digital).
‘Toltec’, meaning ‘artist’ hails from an ancient language of Mexico. Unlike the Aztecs or Mayans who came later, The Toltecs were a society of artists and spiritual seekers who came together more than two thousand years ago to establish cities and build Teotihuacán, north of Mexico City known as “the place where humans awake and remember their divinity..
Taking his lead from this spiritual ethos, ‘Toltec’ sees Ben stepping away from the blistering techno of Space DJz, to a more minimal approach that’s thoughtful and melodic, as it builds from its soaring intro into a raw and grinding groove. Providing a different slant are Detroit Grand Pubahs who dive straight in with a hefty kick and Wolfskuil’s Darko Esser with his punchy, drum-led remix.
Exclusive to the digital format is Ben’s Extended Mix of ‘Toltec’, a stripped electronica version (Late Night Mix), plus the epic sounds of bonus track, ‘Olmec’ to round off an emotional and expressive EP.
