Berkson & What are next up to release on Seth Troxler’s acclaimed Play It Say It with ‘Make It True feat. JoJo De Freq’, a harmonious, radiant house jam with a sharp kick, acid tinged bassline, sultry vocals and smooth synths. Unsung hero Luke Solomon delivers a ‘Remix 4 Turnings’ version turing it into an almost new track with a grooving bassline, funky melody, spoken vocals and prominent hats. Legend Larry Heard aka Mr Fingers heads up the B–side, with his ‘Psychedelic Jungle Mix’ and ‘Smooth Mix’ doing just as they say.
The release features an ‘Extended Mix’ to be released digitally, which is available on this promo. The original can be found on the 12” and on Berkson & What’s forthcoming album, ‘Keep Up Appearances’ to be released on their own Modelmaker in January 2015.
Berkson & What are best known for their machine made house and techno with no frills but plenty of heft on labels like Poker Flat and Crosstown Rebels. Their music engages dancers in the head, heart and heel in equal measure. After Seth heard the original track at Sunwaves festival this summer, he contacted the duo to ask for an extended version and signed the release to the label, organising some fantastic remixes to complete the package.
Vocalist JoJo De Freq used to host the notorious Nag Nag Nag parties in London. Snippets from a recording were used and worked into the track.
Luke Solomon has covered it all from setting up the seminal label Classic Recordings with Derrick Carter to making the UK Top 10 with his band Freaks. Larry Heard is a musician widely known for the Chicago house music he produced in the mid–1980s with influential group Fingers Inc. and solo, most notably as Mr Fingers.
