Lissie’s fourth album Castles is a collection of songs about the dualities of despair and hope, self-sufficiency and longing, past and future. Due to be released 23rd March on Cooking Vinyl, today, Lissie unveils Best Days as her next single which was premiered on Jo Whiley’s BBC Radio 2 show last night.
Castles; a fitting title for a new record that focuses on identifying what you want to build a life with, reflects a new openness in Lissie’s approach to songwriting and recording. Rather than limiting herself to writing exclusively on guitar as on previous records, Lissie opted for a more digital setup – on Castles beats and atmospheres converse with keyboards, guitars, and of course Lissie’s singularly powerful “fearsome instrument”, her voice (The Guardian).
Whilst there’s darkness in this album, there is also a propulsive, and playful sense of fun, not to mention a guiding wisdom to this collection of heartbroken yet indestructible songs that comes with time and distance. Castles steadfastly and defiantly faces forwards, driven by a radical hope best encapsulated by the sunny optimism of Best Days.
Lissie on the single: “Best Days is a song of hope. That our best Days aren’t behind us, that in the present moment we are inside of “the good old days” and that life is full of all kinds of exciting surprises & adventures to come! Don’t stop believing that the best is yet to come."
With the release of the track, fans have the opportunity to unlock the official video by following Lissie and streaming the song on digital platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music. The more they follow and stream, the quicker they reach the target, at which point the video will be revealed for all to see. See the progress here: https://lissie.lnk.to/BDstream
Lissie’s three previous albums, Catching a Tiger (2010) Back to Forever (2013), and My Wild West (2015) all hit Top 20 in the UK charts, with her latest effort reaching #16. Most recently, Lissie was thrilled to appear in David Lynch’s revival of his landmark series Twin Peaks, joining artists as varied as Trent Reznor, Eddie Vedder and Sharon Van Etten and adding a touch of her characteristic sense of ethereal bliss to one of the great cultural legacies of 20th and 21st Century America. NME wrote of her “intense” appearance: “Closing the episode with the Stevie Nicks-esque ‘Wild West’, Rock Island’s most exciting troubadour more than earned her Lynch-commissioned screen time.”
Lissie will be returning to the UK in April to play two London shows including Village Underground as well as dates in Manchester and Glasgow. Keep an eye out for more tour dates, and join us for the next stage in Lissie’s journey.
