Binoy is making waves with the release of his highly anticipated debut album, The Great Alone. With this project, Binoy introduces his distinct blend of “borderless pop,” a genre-crossing sound that seamlessly fuses his Indian heritage and East African upbringing with cinematic pop influences. The result is a body of work that transcends boundaries, both sonically and thematically, inviting listeners on a deeply personal and introspective journey.
Born and raised in Kenya, Binoy’s early fascination with music was ignited by the piano and alto saxophone, eventually blossoming into a lifelong passion for composition and storytelling. Drawing inspiration from artists like Taylor Swift, Fleetwood Mac, ABBA, and MIKA, Binoy’s sound reflects his global influences while staying uniquely his own. His identity as a queer person of colour is central to his artistic expression, with each song offering a vulnerable and honest exploration of his personal experiences. In a world that often feels divided, Binoy’s mission is clear: to foster a sense of community and belonging through his evocative lyrics and lush, cinematic soundscapes.
After years of development, The Great Alone, represents the culmination of over two years of focused craftsmanship. Collaborating with producers Arthur Besna (Nessa Barrett, bludnymyph) and Tripped N Sat, Binoy meticulously shaped every aspect of the album, playing all instruments alongside his co-producers and writing every lyric. Uniquely, the songs were created in the order of the tracklist, giving the album a natural, unfolding narrative. This structure allows, The Great Alone, to flow seamlessly from one emotional chapter to the next, with each track revealing a different facet of loneliness—be it longing, envy, peace, or introspection.
At the heart of the album lies the theme of solitude. “Loneliness became the central theme,” Binoy explains. “I realized that my constant pursuit of the unavailable was a reflection of my own emotional unavailability. The Great Alone, became a metaphor for solitude, visualized as a lush canyon explored by a lone wanderer.” Through its sweeping soundscapes and raw lyricism, the album delves into the universal experience of feeling alone and misunderstood, while offering moments of solace and hope.
The Great Alone, isn’t just a personal project—it’s a universal tale of isolation, identity, and growth. Through poetic storytelling and rich, cross-cultural influences, Binoy invites listeners to immerse themselves in his world, finding comfort in shared experiences of introspection and transformation. For anyone who has ever felt lost in the vastness of their emotions, The Great Alone, offers a powerful reminder that they are not alone.
