Black Loops – The Point (Incl. Emanuel Satie Remix)
Mid November will see Audiojack’s Gruuv imprint offer up some fresh material from Black Loops, who provide us with ‘The Point’ EP, backed with a remix from Emanuel Satie.
Berlin based duo Riccardo Paffetti & Gabriele Micheli aka Black Loops have caused quite a stir of late in the world of underground house and techno, the pair inaugurated with the ‘Right Now’ EP on the Toy Tonics imprint back in mid 2013. This release caught the attention of Audiojack who then snapped the duo up as core artists on their Gruuv imprint. Here we see them drop their second original EP via the imprint following ‘Simplon’, which saw support from the likes of Huxley, Eats Everything, Paul Woolford and Justin Martin to name but a few.
Title cut ‘The Point’ kicks things off, seeing Black Loops explore their signature bumpy drum programming alongside a chuggy bass hook and mesmerizing pad sounds. While an amalgamation of vocal licks are intricately processed and multi-layered throughout the track’s seven and a half minute duration, setting the tone nicely for what’s to follow. Get Physical’s Emanuel Satie offers up his reshape of ‘The Point’ to follow, taking things in a more reserved, dubbed-out direction with swinging, stripped-back drum sounds, growling low-end tones and some clever reworking of the original’s vocals results in a charming interpretation.
Opening the latter half of the release is ‘It’s On’, which sees Riccardo and Gabriele veer things into darker realms with ethereal atmospherics, crunchy rhythms and a fusion of rumbling low-end sounds. While closer ‘Boogie Down’ sees the duo take things back to their high-energy house sound with rugged 909 rhythms, a wandering bass hook and expansive vocal bursts to round things off brilliantly.
Black Loops ‘The Point’ EP is out on Gruuv 17th November 2014.
