Dirtybird mainstays Black V Neck and Life On Planets have teamed up for a brand new single ‘Drip Drop (Handle That)’ out now as part of the label’s 20th anniversary.
Created during Dirtybird’s inaugural Flight Week writing camp in San Francisco, ‘Drip Drop (Handle That)’ captures the collaborative energy that defined the creative sessions. Spiraling with siren-like synths and cheeky lyricism, the track meshes Black V Neck’s infectious rhythms with Life On Planets’ flirtatious vocal flair. Designed for maximum dancefloor impact, the single embodies Dirtybird’s spirit of experimentation while showcasing both artists’ offbeat ethos.
In June, Dirtybird launched its inaugural Flight Week, a week-long series of events culminating in their second Back 2 Baysics outdoor concert at Embarcadero Plaza. Promoting creativity, community, and wellness, Flight Week invited more than a dozen Dirtybird artists to EMPIRE Studios and featured activations with the San Francisco Giants, Midnight Runners Club, clothing brand San Franpsycho, and local restaurants, who rolled out Dirtybird-themed menu items to mark the celebration. ‘Drip Drop (Handle That)’ serves as the first release from Dirtybird’s Flight Week sessions.
Miami natives Black V Neck (Ian & Julian) are a prime example of a Dirtybird’s dedication to growing its flock. The duo first appeared on Birdfeed in 2018 with ‘Stop ‘N Go’, being promoted to the main label in 2019 with their Mouth Music EP. Black V Neck have remained consistent faces with their 2020 follow up Bounce EP and an appearance on the 2021 Campout Compilation. In January, the duo helped launch this year’s anniversary celebrations with ‘Check My Brain’, which served as the label’s first release of the year. Black V Neck are set to perform at this weekend’s Dirtybird CampINN in Orlando, FL.
Baltimore-bred Life On Planets has been steadily building his reputation as one of Dirtybird’s favorite players. Life On Planets first appeared on Lubelski’s Happy Accidents hit ‘Ice Cream Cone’ and has since become a consistent face at Dirtybird’s event series and festivals. His quirky blend of R&B, hip hop, and house has attracted the attention of Walker & Royce, Soul Clap, Archie Hamilton, and Moody Jones and labels like Defected, Rules Don’t Apply, Desert Hearts, Solotoko, and Young Art. Earlier this summer, Life On Planets performed at Dirtybird Campout x Northern Nights and the label’s second annual Back To Baysics.
