BPM – the world’s biggest DJ and electronic music production event – has announced the return of the Freestyle DJ Competition, once again presented by Gemini It is a fantastic opportunity for aspiring DJs to compete for recognition and exposure, take home cutting-edge equipment, and to prove their worth as a DJ.
The live stage of the competition will take place at BPM on Saturday 12 September in the CHAUVET ARENA, where 12 semi-finalists will take to the stage to compete to become BPM’s Freestyle DJ Champion 2015. As well as receiving plenty of promotion and exposure from BPM and Gemini, the winner will also bag themselves an ARENA set at BPM 2016 and an impressive package of Gemini equipment.
The winner of the contest will take home two Gemini MDJ-1000 media players, two SkeletonCases to carry them in, and a pair of Gemini DJX-07 headphones. Meanwhile, the runner-up will walk away with a Gemini G2V controller, as well as a SkeletonCase (to carry it in) and a pair of Gemini DJX-05 headphones. As if that is not enough reason to enter, every DJ who reaches the live stage of the competition will receive a ‘swag bag’ including Gemini DJX-05 headphones, a Kam Moonbulb lighting effect, a USB key and a disc repair kit.
The competition is open to all DJs aged 16 and above, regardless of musical style or preferred playback technology. The gripping live battle will see 12 contestants compete across three heats to impress a panel of industry experts. DJs will have just five minutes to show what they can do behind the decks before the judges choose one winner to go through to the final. One ‘wildcard’ DJ from the heats will also be chosen to go through to the finals as the fourth DJ. All judging decisions will be based on technical ability, music selection and crowd interaction.
At the end of the day the grand final will take place on the main stage, with each finalist performing another five-minute showcase mix. The judges will then select a runner up and announce the BPM Freestyle Champion for 2015!
To enter the BPM Freestyle Competition, DJs must record a video or audio mix, upload it to a streaming site and then fill in the registration form on the BPM website. It will then be down to the public to vote for their favourite mixes. The 12 entrants with the highest number of votes will progress to the live heats at BPM. The online voting will run until Monday 7 September. The earlier DJs submit their mixes, the better chance they have of picking up votes and getting through to the live stage!
Tickets for BPM 2015 are on sale now and also include entry to the collocated PRO Performance and Venue Technology Show
