Brittneyann (she/her), a multi-instrumentalist performer, songwriter, and musician hailing from New Jersey, is set to captivate listeners once again with her latest single, “Friends Lovers Enemies”. Infused with elements of RnB, Bedroompop, and Bossa Nova, this track promises a blend of sultry and nostalgic vibes that make for easy listening, drawing listeners into a warm and welcoming soundscape.
Raised in a culturally rich household with Belizean and Italian influences, Brittneyann developed an early passion for music, inspired by a diverse range of artists. From the soulful sounds of Bob Marley, Lucky Dube, and Aretha Franklin to the powerful vocals of Christina Aguilera and the edgy rock of ACDC and The Rolling Stones, her eclectic taste has shaped a unique musical style. This diverse background is evident in her latest work, where she seamlessly blends different genres to create something truly special.
Brittneyann’s journey in the entertainment industry began at a young age, featuring in “Sesame Street” episodes and starring in the feature film “Dragon Tales: Let’s Start a Band” at just four years old. Over the years, she has graced major arenas across the country, singing the National Anthem at various sports games. After honing her craft at AMDA NY, she made her Off-Broadway debut at 20 in “The Office! A Musical Parody” and went on to originate roles in national tours and regional shows, all while cultivating her sound as an artist and producer. Her relentless dedication has seen her releasing a consistent stream of singles every 6-8 weeks, with “Friends Lovers Enemies” being the latest addition.
Describing the creative process behind “Friends Lovers Enemies”, Brittneyann shares, “The idea for the hook came to me first, and I heard the open strumming pattern of an acoustic guitar with an almost dance-hall-like feel to the drums. So I headed into the studio and laid down the guitar parts first, then drums, and everything else followed. The nuts and bolts of the song are pretty straightforward—acoustic guitar, 808s, electric piano, drums plus snaps. What was most important to me was the world that the song created for the listener, and I wanted it to feel soft, warm, welcoming.”
She emphasizes the meticulous attention to detail that went into the production, focusing on the ambience that shapes the overall feel of the track. “My co-producer and I took a lot of time on the ambience of the song. It’s the parts you barely hear, that would feel like something was missing if they were gone. A bit tedious, but it makes all the difference.”
“Friends Lovers Enemies” delves into the complexities of unspoken love and the turmoil it can bring. Brittneyann opens up about the personal experience that inspired the song, saying, “This song is about being in love with your best friend and knowing your toxic tendencies will ruin everything, so you decide to keep it to yourself even though it’s driving you crazy. I went through this last year with someone I’ve been close with for 12 years. So the stakes were extremely high.“
She continues, “I had no idea how to navigate the sheer multitude of friend love I had for them, their importance in my life, plus the realization of romantic love. And friendship breakups hurt way more than relationship breakups in my opinion. I found myself extremely overwhelmed and not sure what to do. So I wrote down everything I wanted to say to this person and put it into a song.“
With “Friends Lovers Enemies”, Brittneyann invites listeners into her world. As she continues to evolve as an artist, Brittneyann’s heartfelt storytelling and musical prowess promise to leave a lasting impact on the music scene.
