Through tracks like ‘Higher State’ and even more recently, ‘Never Leave U’ and ‘Homelands’, Deep State label boss Grum has been affecting a return to his musical roots of late.
Following that natural progression, the DJ/producer has revisited one of the tracks that drew him into the electronic music space in the first instance. To round out a truly flaming June, the Scot has given BT’s immortal ‘Godspeed’ a dazzlingly layered and sonically rich reimagining.
Spooling up the sub-bass and breakbeats, Grum begins to tease the floor with BT’s celestially haunting, female harmonies. Through echoing melodies and coastal atmospherics, he gives his rework an aerodynamic structure — tight, pulsing, and technologically intricate, yet one that’s every bit as much emotional and yearning. The restless rhythms of his breaks play off against shimmering digital textures, as its soaring tones deliver an anthemic hail to summers past … and future.
Everyone should have a ‘first time I heard ‘Godspeed’ story. Grum would love this will be yours! Find it here, and wherever quality music is sold or streamed [blackhole.lnk.to/GodspeedGrum].
