UMTV is releasing Café MAMBO Ibiza Sunsets 2015 on Friday 7th August 2015 on download and stream featuring a diverse line up of revered artists such as The Cure, Grace Jones, Mary J Blige, Jose Padilla, Gilles Peterson, Carl Craig, Skream, Young Marco, Soul II Soul, Womack & Womack, Velvet Underground, Lamb, Vangelis, and William Orbit.

Café MAMBO Ibiza Sunsets 2015 is a 43-track album of chillout classics that have been soundtracking the famous sunset on the terraces of the world’s most popular sunset destination venue. The album has been compiled by legendary Cafe Mambo resident DJ Pete Gooding and features an essential, timeless selection of mesmerising moments that continue to inspire sunset worshippers the world over.

Café Mambo has been hailed as the place to party on the sunset strip in Sant Antoni, Ibiza, since 1994 and hosted its first BBC Radio 1 Weekend the following year.  With unrivalled DJ line-ups, mixed with food, cocktails and the world famous sunset, it is estimated the outdoor area has hosted as many as 23 million clubbers during its tenure. Some of the star names who have graced the decks at this legendary venue include Pete Tong, Carl Cox, Swedish House Mafia, Solomun, Bob Sinclar, MK, David Guetta, Duke Dumont, Martin Garrix, Hannah Wants, Guy Gerber, Tiesto, Hardwell, Fatboy Slim, and Steve Aoki.
Pete Gooding, Cafe Mambo resident DJ says: “I’m really excited about this year’s Cafe Mambo compilation, as it maintains the same flow as the 20th anniversary release, which generated a great reaction. Each mix features a sunset running order, so if you’re familiar with the sunset at Cafe Mambo you’ll recognise the progression. It starts mid-tempo, then goes more down-tempo, then into beatless tracks, classical music and soundtracks until the moment the sun disappears when the vibe and tempo is lifted up into night-time, which makes these last 2 compilations the most honest reflection of how I play the sunset at Cafe Mambo. There are classic tracks from people like David Bowie & Pat Metheny, Mike Oldfield, Barry White, Carl Craig, The Temptations, Timmy Thomas, Womack & Womack, Velvet Underground, Vangelis and many others and new cutting edge music from Jose Padilla, Lydmor, Andras Fox, Balearic Gabba Sound System and Young Marco, as well as one of my own tracks. Please listen, relax and enjoy the sunset.”

Pete Gooding’s Guide To Cafe MAMBO Ibiza Sunsets 2015:

–    Jose Padilla feat Lydmor – Maybe The Sunset

This is my favourite track form Jose Padilla’s new artist album, its special to me as I was one of the executive producers on this album and Lydmor is an amazing Danish artist that I found last year at the Stella Polaris Festival and it was a great collaboration that I’m really pleased with.

– Incognito – Out Of The Storm (Carl Craig Remix)

– For me this is one of Carl Craig’s best remixes, it takes you on an incredible journey from start to finish and I have been playing this at Cafe Mambo for many years. It was always very hard to get hold of on vinyl so its great to make it available to people.

– Barry White – Playing Your Game Baby

Another old favourite of mine that I have played for years, for me it’s Barry’s White’s best track.

– Enigma – Sadness

This may be very obvious to some people and it was a huge track at the time but it is an amazing track that really took ‘Chill Out’ music to the main stream in the early 90’s.

– Craig Armstrong – Weather Storm

Craig Armstrong’s album ‘The Space Between Us’ is a classic for me, you could just play it start to finish at Cafe Mambo and it would be perfect. Last year I used 2 tracks from this album and I’m very happy to be featuring another one this year as he makes the most dramatic sunset music that really sets that special sunset vibe.

– La Roux – In For The Kill (Skream’s Let’s Get Ravey Remix)

This may sound an odd choice as in its full length version it turns into a crazy drum n bass track but what I have done for years at Mambo is edit out the drum n bass section which leaves the most incredibly atmospheric down-tempo track, amazing!

– Now Now Now – Problem (Enzo Elia’s Neukolin Edit)

This is a lesser known track that has been edited by Enzo Elia from Balearic Gabba Sound System in Italy, for me this is the best Balearic track I have come across in the last few years, its a timeless piece of work that is as good as tracks like: Pacific State and Sueno Latino.

– The Temptations – The Jones’s (12’’ Surgery Mix)

A great track I used to hear Jose play at Cafe Del Mar in the early 90’s and its always been in box ever since.

– David Bowie & Pat Metheny – This Is Not America (Instrumental)

A beautiful track from David Bowie & Pat Metheny that sounds so perfect in the sunshine, one of the previous Mambo DJ’s called Danny Whitehead used to play this all the time at the bar so it was a matter of time till it made it on to one of our compilations.

– Grace Jones – Walking In The Rain

So many Grace Jones tracks have that special Balearic sound to them so its never difficult picking one of her track for the compilation, last year we have ‘Private Life’ which is also perfect.

– William Orbit – Best Friend Paranoia

One of the more obscure tracks from William Orbit’s classic album ‘Strange Cargo Vol 3’ the same album had tracks like ‘Water From A Vineleaf’ and ‘Story Of Light’, this is every bit as good!

– Pete Gooding & Jonathan Cowan – Mirage (Cafe Mambo Sunset Mix)

I made this track with Cafe Mambo in mind around 4 years ago, its a very melodic, atmospheric, ambient track that was designed specially for sunset. I made this with a friend from Miami called Jonathan Cowan.

– Timmy Thomas – Why Can’t We Live Together

This is Balearic classic from the days when Alfredo played at Amnesia, say no more.

– Chassol – Ultratheka Part 1 (Gilles Peterson Edit)

This is a great track from French Jazz artist Chassol and with Gilles Peterson’s re-edit it’s even better, I heard Giles play this on his radio show about 6 months ago and got straight in touch with the artist of Facebook saying I needed it for this compilation and he was really happy to be part of it so I was very pleased.

– The Cure – Lullaby

Another great track that is associated with the early 90’s in Ibiza, still sounds fresh today.

– Young Marco – Trippy Isolator

This is a beautiful track taken from the Dutch producer’s latest album, all the tracks are great but as soon as I heard this one I knew it would sound great at sunset.

– Vangelis – Rachael’s Song

This is taken from the soundtrack to the cult classic movie Bladerunner, all the tracks are so good for sunset and Javier the owner of Mambo is a big fan of soundtracks and this is one of his favourites, last year we used ‘Love Theme’ on the compilation and this year ‘Rachael’s Song’.

– Louis Armstrong – What A Wonderful World

To some this may be an odd choice for an Ibiza compilation but it makes perfect sense to me, if you sit in Mambo at sunset and hear this, it’s a wonderful moment and the lyrics really make sense 🙂

Café MAMBO Ibiza Sunsets 2015 is released on UMTV on 7/8/15. A limited edition vinyl album will be released in September 2015.
