Candyblasters – Thunder
Pop Rox Muzik continue their busiest year to date with a big room effort from Candyblasters. The fast-rising label has become one of the most dependable and consistently quality factories for a huge crew of some of the most promising emerging talents in dance music. A label that focuses almost exclusively on breaking new talents, it’s a rare label that’s all about the music, potential and drive of young talents that are looking for a break in this saturated industry. The work of ethic of the label has kept Pop Rox Muzik exciting, fresh and competing for top spots with the majors that have a vice grip on the sales charts. In a world that wants a 100,000 Facebook fans to spark the interest of a top label, it’s refreshing to see Pop Rox judge an artist on demos and not the following. We all agree that music comes first and foremost, but all to often that is not the case for some of our most promising upcoming talents.
Candyblasters’ ‘Thunder’ is a typically beefy Pop Rox release. All about dance floor energy, peak hour celebrations and the vintage vigour of electronic dance music in its energetic forms – Candyblasters hits the nail on the head with this most recent release. The production wastes no time becoming busy, layering up stacks of FX and synths that quickly announce the single is a full bodied club track. The breakdown throws a curveball in the way of a guitar lead – an unusual twist on the usual super saw breakdowns we come to expect in these situations. Plucking along over layers of risers, faders and noise FX – the leads drive straight into a drop, which shows off Candyblasters’ production prowess.
The main body of the track boasts a tough kick drum, a pulsing offbeat bass and a wild and almost-Dubstep bass cut that rips in and out around the drums and sub bass. The leads are fresh and custom sounding and the whole arrangement has clearly been well planned and executed. Attention to the mix is obvious and boasting a clarity that’s ahead of the curve of the up and coming ranks – it’s a good indicator for great things in the future for Candyblasters. Once again Pop Rox show us a glimpse into the talented underground that’s flourishing in EDM and with the label so driven to break these guys – we can look forward to a whole lot more of the same.
