Cheyne Christian Debuts on Stealth with Afro-house gem

Hugely versatile New York City Producer Cheyne Christian continues his great run of recent form with brilliant new single ‘Wakala’ featuring the standout vocal talents of Nes Mburu. This fresh new Afro-house track marks Christian’s debut release on Roger Sanchez’s Stealth. It will also be a part of the label’s forthcoming Rituals Vol. 4 compilation which is due for release at the end of May.

In recent times, Cheyne Christian has proved that he has a wide range of styles in his arsenal. From an epic bootleg of The Police classic ‘Message In A Bottle’ on his own Bridge & Tunnel Beat. Co label via top quality tracks that mix up Latin, tribal and Afro influences on world renowned labels like Nervous, Toolroom, Saved and Force Of Habit, he has shown he is an artist who is forever evolving. For that reason, his tunes often find their way into high profile record bags belonging to the likes of Claptone, who has supported almost every tune Christian has released, through to Carl Cox, Roger Sanchez, Fatboy Slim and Oscar G.

His fresh sound is drawn from his musical upbringing in NYC, a famous melting pot of styles that he now adds to in his own unique way. As a DJ, Christian is just as versatile having got his first residency aged just 17 at the legendary Tunnel club. Many more US residencies followed as did slots warming up for legends like Danny Tenaglia which helped break him out onto the wider stage. These days he is a regular everywhere from Somewhere NoWhere (NYC) and House of Hyde at SLS (Miami) as well as on his Sneaker Dancing Sessions radio show on Select Radio and DI.FM.

For his latest studio magic, Christian has hooked up once more with revered African singer and songwriter Nes Mburu having found his profile on fiverr. Christian was mesmerised as soon as he heard Nes’s voice and the pair’s first big success was the superb ‘Lotto’ track on Nervous. From there they have continued to collaborate. This latest tune finds Nes deliver vocals in both Swahili and Kikuyu, a native Kenyon tribal language.

‘Wakala’ is Christian’s first tune on Roger Sanchez’s influential Stealth label, which for more than 20 years has been synonymous with cutting edge house sounds from the best artists in the world. It is a vibrant mix of authentic Afro-house drums and organic percussion, hypnotic shakers and warm, rolling bass. As the groove builds and Nes’s spine tingling vocals arrive, a spiritual atmosphere casts a real spell on all who hear it and the tribalism of the drums ensures that the dance floor will stay locked in.

Cheyne Christian has cooked up another one of his captivating signature sounds with ‘Wakala’ which is sure to be a ubiquitous hit this summer.
