Hot Spell is a new project from an artist formerly known as part of the duo Herr Styler. He is a partner in this label and has a wealth of new singles and an album to unveil in the coming months. The excellent EP comes with a sleeve by acclaimed photographer Ambroise Tezenas.
Hot Spell’s music has an alternative pop sound inspired by electronica as well as r&b, cumbia and African polyrhythmic patterns. His real name is Gennaro Nocerino and he is an Italian composer who has been making music for more than a decade. He has played all over the world and this latest project is sure to prove his most essential to date, following on from the acclaimed ‘Cloaking’ release with its Japanese Manga style video.
The track features Gustaph from Hercules & The Affair and is a dreamy and delightful affair. With whimsical whistles and skittish broken beats, it creates a lovestruck vibe that sucks you right in. The vocals are tender and emotive, percussion comes in the form of finger clicks and claps, and the whole thing is stirring, organic and loveably curious with great keys and off beat grooves.
Spanish producer BeGun, who also works as one half of AKKAN on this label, is drafted in to remix ‘Chocolat’. He flips the track into an exotic bit of sun kissed house music that is frayed round the edges and feels nostalgic for a long lost summer of your youth.
This is a majestic package of magical sounds that really get under your skin and stay there long after they have finished, the music is also supported with a striking music video that will be launched in the lead up to the release.
