Cilus The Kid drops dance anthem ‘Player of the Match’ for the 2022 FIFA World Cup

Josemar Martinez Carrera, better known as Cilus The Kid, is a Brazilian-Spanish DJ and producer hailing from Sao Paulo, Brazil. He became curious about music production after discovering pop innovator Avicii in 2012, who inspired him to produce dance-pop tracks that are reminiscent of artists such as DJ Snake and Marshmello.

Cilus The Kid’s music repertoire, which includes the EP ‘Kid From Krik’, is an audio representation of his imagination. He envisions melodies for images and videos and, after watching the 2022 UEFA Champions League Final, came up with ‘Player of the Match’. The uptempo, danceable track features a snappy yet celebratory banjo and is dedicated to the artist’s adoration for football – a trait which undeniably stems from his Brazilian heritage. After all, the country is considered by its citizens to be the “o pais do futebol”.

“I’ve always dreamt of producing a song for my favourite sport. Like any good Brazilian, I follow every competition and, while watching the Champions League Final, a melody came to me which I thought would be great for the World Cup. I started with keys and a banjo, and then produced it through my DAW – an Ableton Live. I feel incredibly proud of myself for being able to tick off one of my music career goals.”

Carrera is also fond of comics, crafting characters and stories which not only influence his music but also his stage persona. Keeping the focus on his art, Carrera wears a helmet that mirrors the mystique of Donnie Darko’s Frank the Rabbit and, in doing so, he becomes Cilus The Kid. The helmet comes in various different shades, including a special gold edition, which he wears to reflect the tone of his mood or of the event he’s performing at.

“I like to think of it as having a digital ‘Skins’ store in real life,” he says. “Though, the inspiration to wear a helmet initially came from my friend J-O, who I met while I was living in Germany in 2021. He encouraged me to take a step forward in my artistic career by becoming a character and, if it wasn’t for him, I’d still be a ghost producer.”

Cilus The Kid is also unveiling a new track ‘Runaway’ ft Isak Brown on December 10th for his birthday. He aims to produce a track in time for his birthday each year for the next 10 years, compiling a crowning collection album with all the songs remastered.
