refused. experiments with a powerhouse collaboration between one young German producer Florian Frings(Minus), and techno duo Díaz & Parrée (Moonplay) from Deutchland in this next EP Contrast. The EP expresses just that, a strong and tasteful contrast between three unique styles and sounds to offer up a minimalistic masterpiece.
Contrast offers up 4 minimal tracks with a variety of elements. The first track Arrived- has a very traditional minimal cut, with a strong subby bassline. Layering on top of the bassline is a nice tight percussion and a catchy, plucked synth line giving the track great movement and energy. Departed- comes in with a nice, strong, rolling bassline which just almost steps into tech-house territory. Meanwhile, the percussion and synth progression maintains it’s raw minimal techno status. Reflection- grows a bit more aggressively than the rest of the tracks so far on the EP. The punchy bassline is more in your face, while the other tracks have a more subdued bass. The pronounced hi’s gives Reflection an electrifying presence. Lastly Mirror- is a bit on the darker side compared to the rest of the EP. The background instruments show a heavy reverb and delay giving the track smooth ambience. While the bassline still gives it a high level of energy, this moody track is a nice way to end the EP.
