Copy Paste Soul – Like This

Copy Paste Soul returns with a new EP on his newly relaunched 2Swords imprint this August, entitled ‘The Fall’ and backed with a remix from house legend Laurent Garnier.

Rising artist Copy Paste Soul has been receiving huge support on his material over the past few years, striking chords with the BBC Radio 1 elite including Pete Tong, Annie Mac, B Traits and Skream, with his infectiously warm and intelligent compositions. He relaunched the 2Swords imprint with ‘Like This’ in June 2014, picking up wide support in the lead up from many heavy hitting names in the world of underground electronic music, namely Art Department, Huxley, Ewan Pearson and Kate Simko to name but a few.

Here we see Copy Paste Soul open up this new release with the re-release of title cut ‘The Fall’, a contemporary house cut fuelled by loose, bumpy rhythms and low-pitched vocal licks, while classic rave style stab sequences, a wandering bass hook and tension building string melodies add a retro charm to the feel of the record. Once again we’re treated to stylish and understated work from Copy Paste Soul.

Following is a second original from the budding producer, entitled ‘The Reverend’, this time embracing a jazz- tinged aesthetic with meandering piano licks, preachy vocal lines and natural rhythms, while a hypnotizing, elongated bass hook puts a unique spin on things to generate a distinctive and idiosyncratic piece.

The package is then rounded off with a remix from French legend Laurent Garnier, who reshapes ‘The Fall’ into an elegant groove-led number, Laurent’s been a huge fan of Copy Paste Soul’s material since the project was launched, and the fact he only offers remixes for one in return stands as testament to their relationship and love for each others music. Garnier lays his interpretation out over nine minutes with an ever-blossoming, dynamic feel, extracting snippets from the original and remoulding them with his signature deep and engrossing style.
