Following his appearance on The Power of Hydrogren 12″ Countered showed up at Subspec HQ with three brand new raw transistor bass tracks and dared us to kick them. The thing about acid is that there will be times when you swear it’s time to put it away, but that silver box and those knobs and peculiarities of the sequencer pull you right back. You swear you’ve kicked it, but deep down you know you can never put it down.
On ‘Kikkit’ Countered brings out three deep down Midwest acid tracks built around simple, highly-repetitive grooves and subtle modulations. Each one created from live takes improvised on the spot and recorded quickly to capture the rough essence of the tracks. “Kikkit (Part A)” explores the moody, hypnotic side of repetition with a 303 line riding cavernous pads. “You Can’t Kikkit” takes a more straight ahead tac, combining the raw analog bass line with processed TR-808 sounds to create a tougher take on tweaky jack. The EP closes with “Kikkit (Part B)” a tightly coiled version of the title track where the acid twists around a dirty, dirty “east side” booty beat.
