Celeste - Daydreaming
Celeste has some big supporters and made her radio debut as one of Annie Mac’s ‘New Names’, Mac’s selection of the best new artists to watch out for. The track is one of the first releases on Lily Allen’s Bank Holiday Records, and the first release for LA born Brighton native Celeste.
‘Day Dreaming’ is Celeste’s brooding ode to her heroes and days spent dreaming of sunnier times, produced by SBTRKT collaborator Tev'n and acclaimed DJ and producer JD. Reid.
Produced in collaboration with visual artist Bafic, who Celeste met by chance in Moth Club, the video perfectly captures a day-dreamers’ hazy dreamscape. It’s a welcome out-of-body escape if you’re pining for the summer already.
Celeste says: "Day Dreaming is my lust after the summer, the hypnotic murmur of Billie Holiday’s voice in the background, a brief moment of self-empathy and a beam of light that turned into a day dream, then into day dreaming”
Celeste was raised on seaside air and inspired by Vanguard jazz. From idolising the vocal prowess of Aretha Franklin, Minnie Riperton, Etta James, The Supremes, Marlena Shaw, and Tina Turner, Celeste learned to sing with heart and soon developed a love of instrumentalists such as Thelonious Monk, Alice Coltrane, and Sun-Ra, and the film scores of John Barry. All of this has come together to create Celeste’s unfeigned, honest, and heartfelt writing style.
