Loco Dice’s Desolat hits release number 50 in real style with a vast and vital opus that calls upon a wealth of talented producers, from heavyweight global figures to relative newcomers. As well as 19 exclusive new tracks, there is also a mix of them all skilfully put together by Francisco Allendes.
Desolat has been dictating dance trends since 2007 and in doing so has helped advance the careers of many of the scene’s key producers. Behind this tale of success has been the tireless efforts of label boss Loco Dice who’s dedication to new music has been at the root of everything the label does. This Desolat-X sampler was in fact painstakingly compiled over a period of more than a year with a long list of tracks roadtested repeatedly until Dice had finally pared it down the this perfect set.
Things kick off with the percussive brilliance of 8281’s ‘Servant’ before Alex Ground & Proudly People, Andrea Oliva and Arado offer some irresistibly percussive and fulsome grooves. Caleb Calloway keeps things deep with ‘Avion’, Dutchman Chuckie gets freaky with his teasing tech tool ‘Light It Up’ and then DJ Dep offers a more playful track before Droste gets all ghetto fried and loopy with his cut.
The legendary Halo Varga teams up with Harvard Bass and brings his west coast swing to the table, Circus hero Lewis Boardman works us into a real sweat with ‘Goblin’ and then the likes of Mennie, Ortis & Khan and Stop File layer up bass and drums into visceral, rib rattling efforts that are full of cavernous chambers in which to get lost. Next, Italian Pirupa serves up another skittish and floor filling house roller that typifies his style and then a welcome return from The Timewriter shuts things down with an unhinged groove, dark vocal samples and kinetic drums that leave you begging for more.
This compelling compilation showcases exactly what the label is about: ‘floor facing tunes with real force and personality, and all in all it stands as a top testament to Loco Dice’s unique vision of dance music.
