Electropical Record welcome long time French innovator Rob Malone for two new tracks that come with on point remixes by Ron Costa and Jerome Caproni.
Malone runs the BTRAX label and record shop, and since 1996 has been turning out a brand of house that takes cues from Chicago and Detroit. He’s long been laying down sets at Paris’s famous Rex Club, and this year has been as productive as ever. These latest missives are some of his strongest yet.
First here he offers the enthralling ‘Deviance’, a dark and driving mid-tempo tech house tune. It has rugged drums and frazzled, arresting synths bringing texture and atmosphere to the groove. With plenty of big breakdowns, it’s a dramatic track filled with real adventure.
First to remix is Ron Costa, the Parisian who has long run his own Potobolo Records and has a sound that breathes the atmosphere of his home city. Always going at things from a musician’s perspective, he flips ‘Deviance’ into a taught and dubbed out bit of warehouse techno with melodic bass. It’s a robust cut but one with real personality and warmth.
Then comes a brilliant remix from Jérome Caproni, an explorer of organic techno and lover of analogue and digital techniques. He releases on labels like Kassian Records and Tic Tac Toe and nails a heavy and foreboding version here. Searching synths slowly spray across the face of the huge rolling drums, and the whole thing has a dystopian feeling that is perfect for darkened dance floors.
Malone then finishes things off with ‘Raw’, a slick techno cut that will get the floor on its toes with icy hi hats and soulful, forward looking pads. It’s a big track that will make a big impact.
This is another tasteful techno offering from Electropical Record and key artist Rob Malone.
