2019 sees historic London venue Dingwalls entering a bold new era under brand new ownership. This latest chapter sees the storied venue receive a fresh burst of energy as well as the investment which will re-establish it as one of the most essential places to see live music anywhere in the city.
From packing timber to packed out gigs, Dingwalls has a rich history that has made it a firm fixture in Camden Town since the seventies. Originally a timber yard, then a series of workshops, an antiques market and packaging warehouse, it was then bought and turned into a dance hall that boasted, at the time, the longest bar in London. It went on to become a cult hangout and live venue for legends such as David Hockney and The Sex Pistols, The Clashand The Strokes. It is now set to return to these glory days under new ownership.
After a confused period where the heritage of the venue has been diluted with sub brands, Dingwalls will be brought back to life and taken into the future. Throughout 2019, the venue will remain open as background renovations take place with expected completion in Summer 2019. This robust programme of improvements includes a refreshed live room, new roof terrace, all-new green room for artists and other venue developments which will improve the whole customer experience.
In addition, there is a brand new music programme for 2019 which will be managed by London based agency LNZRT. Responsible for producing some of the capital's most highly regarded live music venues and festivals such as MOTH CLUB, The Shacklewell Arms, The Waiting Room and Test Pressing Festival, they will continue to work with forward thinking promoters and acts from across the UK and internationally, returning Dingwalls the heart of the contemporary live music and club circuit.
Electronic music shows and club nights will sit alongside live performances in a seven days a week schedule that will bring a classy and on point mix of local stars and more established names from a wide array of genres. Some highlights for 2019 so far include acts Psychedelic P#rn Crumpets, The Paper Kites, L.A. Witch, Sorry, The Marsicians, Bloxx, Only The Poets and promotions from Bird On The Wire, Bad Vibrations, Snap Crackle and Pop, Communion and Kilimanjaro. Dingwalls will also host a series of ‘Fightback’ shows in collaboration with UK charity Music Venues Trust which acts to protect, secure and improve UK grassroots music venues and boasts Paul McCartney as a patron.
Customer experience will be at the heart of Dingwalls going forwards; a welcoming, atmospheric and music focused venue offering quality food and drink and efficient service. With all new staff, management and security you can expect fast and friendly service.
The venue will also offer a connoisseur selection of craft ales from Brixton Brewery, Beavertown Brewery, BrewDog and Camden Town Brewery amongst others. To help keep you fuelled, brand new kitchen staff will serve up a mouthwatering ‘Proper Pub Grub’ food menu.
As Dingwalls enters this exciting new era, a renewed musical focus and tempting food and drink offerings will ensure a relaxing, fun and memorable night and place Dingwalls back in the headlines where this historic venue belongs. With music venues closing all around the country this news is a ray of light for music lovers.
