Presented by Des Paul and DJ Lora, the 16th edition DJ Awards have celebrated once again those artists who have made the most significant impact on the electronic music scene, with 11 Special Awards judged by an independent music panel, and 9 categories voted for by the public – ranging from Trance to Techno, Tech House to Deep House.
This year´s event saw 2 stunning live performances; Kathy Sledge sang the iconic track “We are Family” to a packed Pacha, who also got a great version of Track of the Season, “Paper Aeroplane” performed with Francesco Rossi and vocalist Matt Henry.
This year, the DJ Awards also introduced a new Special Award – Record Label – which was picked up by Crosstown Rebels celebrating 10 years.
Luciano picked up the award for Tech House; Deep House was presented to Solomun. And Hot Natured for Electronic Live Performance were also recipients of the coveted DJ Awards Kryptonite.
It was a memorable night for the Spanish fraternity, Cristian Varela, topped the category for Techno, and Newcomer went to Uner. Armin Van Buuren who again won two awards scooping Trance and International DJ and Electro House went to Hardwell.
In the Special Awards, there was a new accolade this year for Lifetime Achievement which went to Jerry Greenberg, who at 32 was the youngest president of any major record label and went on to sign such musical heavyweights as Nile Rodgers, Dr Dre & Easy E.
Willie Graff walked away with Ibiza DJ; Boiler room TV was given the award for Media, while International Festival went to BPM Festival from Playa del Carmen; Mexico.
Holding onto the Latin American vibe, Mexico were also given recognition this year for Dance Nation of the Year, with their very own Hector accepting the award, and Maceo Plex won a well-deserved Producer of the Year.
As the winners, celebrated into the early hours, the after party for DJ Awards was celebrated with Guy Gerbers Wisdom of the Glove. Audiofly, Lee Curtiss (live), Lawrence, Bill Patrick, Maayan Nidem, DJ Tennis, Shaun Reeves, Mo Funk/Dazzla, Willie Graff, and Graham Sahara took over on the decks and ended another memorable night for DJ Awards … see you on the 17th edition and thanks al for your support!
