DJ Sang-Do – The Analogue Collection

A complete works of Sang-Do from 2012-2014 – ‘The Analog Collection’ is eleven tracks strong and covers the musical journey of a producer who’s been sizzling in his studio, pushing out a varied library of weighty releases covering all areas of the electronic dance music domain. Touching on mostly upbeat Electro and Progressive House, there’s a line of other splashes of influence as the compilation dips into Techno territory as well as some Dubstep and Breaks in areas. The result is a fresh and organic sounding collection that serves as a quality taster of what Sang-Do gets up to behind the desk.

Not bound by trends or genre-limitations Sang-Do is one of the rare breed that just does what comes naturally, rather than mimicking the Beatport charts in order to catch a break. All too often we find ourselves following the leader and the result is a disbanded culture that often leaves next week’s release sounding all too similar to last week’s. Sang-Do has a few signatures to his sound – most noticeably a love for intense synths and big atmospherics. His production style is free flowing, bold and full of ideas and left field approaches to his modulation and arrangements, which all vary greatly.

Whilst this collection might not find itself topping the sales charts, it does carry a personal energy and creativity that’s hard to come by in 2015. It’s refreshing to hear an artist get lost in the synths and write music from the heart, rather than just the brain. What’s more important, sales or delivering a personal message in your music? Your own answer to that will probably determine how you take this compilation – but we’re a big fan of expression and think this package is fully deserving of the attention it’s amassing.
