The new location of Doctor Music Festival is now the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, – Montmeló, on the 12th, 13th and 14th of July.
The opening day on Thursday 11th July has unfortunately been suspended, with Parquet Courts’ performance being moved to Friday 12th and the Smashing Pumpkins show moving to Sunday 14th as one of the headliners on that day.
They accepted this change with the respect and courtesy only worthy of one of the most emblematic bands on the international music scene. The band was willing to accommodate the date and time change for the sake of the festival, their fans, and the other bands.
The return of Doctor Music Festival was due to be held in the Escalarre Vall d’Àneu valley, where the festival’s previous editions had been held. However, due to an unfavourable and final report from the ACA (The Catalan Water Agency) today they have been forced to move the festival to a new location, as with just 4 months left to go, it would be impossible to reduce the size of the festival in order to meet the limitations required.
In the festival’s opinion, there has been a very over-exaggerated and destructive interpretation of the regulations surroundings theoretical flood risks in the valley, which has never before flooded in summer (at least as far as current data shows). The stringency levels which have been applied in this case far surpass the norm and we have therefore been forced to abandon the originally planned location in order to ensure that all artistic commitments made are complied with, and make sure that the festival goes ahead as per originally designed for this new edition.
All of the festival’s previously confirmed acts will remain the same, with the exception of Chris Robinson Brotherhood. There will also be several new acts added to the line-up at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Montmeló (an internationally renowned location boasting excellent facilities and spanning over more than 600,000m2)
Thanks to the privileged location of Montmeló, at just 32 kilometres from Barcelona, with multiple access routes by car, as well as its own train station, this venue offers a multitude of amenities for festivalgoers which would be difficult to find at any other large music festival of this scale.
This new festival edition envisions the most innovative and dramatic of set designs, in line with cutting-edge international design. There will be four very different spaces, each bursting with personality and a distinctive look.
The main stage spans 162 meters long and is the biggest stage ever to be held at a festival or concert in southern Europe. It has been designed by no other than Ray Winkler, the leading talent behind the famous London studio Stufish Entertaiment Architects www.stufish.com. They are responsible for the stage setups of many international tours for the likes of The Rolling Stones, U2, Metallica, AC/DC, Madonna, Beyoncé & Jay Z, Muse, Pink Floyd… and many more. The lighting for such a special stage will be created by no other than the prestigious lighting designer Patrick Woodroffe, general director of Woodroffe Basset Design www.woodroffebassett.com, who designed the most recent tours for AC/DC, The Rolling Stones, Adele, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Elton John, Paul Simon and Phil Collins, among many other.
Special mention must also go to the Force Field area, which will play host to a special program of open-air electronic music, for which the full line-up will be announced very soon!
This novel concept has been created and designed by Damian Lazarus himself, the influential DJ and producer responsible for the success of festivals such as Get Lostin Miami or Day Zero in Tulum, together with the help from the prestigious Belgian studio Criaturas www.criaturas.com
It will be a one-of-a-kind exclusive experience, with a specially designed concept and look for the occasion. Luciano, Jamie Jones, Âme and Dj Tennis are just some of the 23 artists set to fill this innovative space with their force and energy.
